CENTRE OF ADVANCED TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Project Management Training

You'd think that deadlines and expertise ought to create a powerful dynamic to get projects up and running wouldn't you?

But as it often turns out they don’t.
“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft agley an’ leave us nought but grief an’ pain for promis’d joy”
Robert Burns

That just about sums up project management!

Most of us have had some experience of the very best laid plans going ‘aft agley’ as Robbie says.
Projects take all sorts of forms from grand schemes to simple purchases but they all have a beginning, a middle and, hopefully, an end!

The first step to good project management is to get the mechanics right – like deciding what to do, planning tasks, setting deadlines and letting people know.

Good project management brings all the disparate elements together and unlike trying to herd cats, is a way to draw the best from people, skills and processes.
So, we know what good project management is supposed to achieve, but how do you ‘do’ good project management?

It’s the People
Having a well thought through plan is fantastic but that won’t guarantee a great outcome – sometimes people get in the way.

A bit like the guy who said that hotel management would be a piece of cake if it wasn’t for the guests.

Getting everyone to the end and recognizing it when you get there can be a challenge.
When you do manage it, it’s a great thing to celebrate.

Our Project Management training takes you on the whole journey; from setting great outcomes, via handling the unexpected, through to celebrating success.

Project Management isn’t just about who’s doing what and by when, though on the surface that is what most people think it’s all about.

Getting them on Board
For us it’s also about getting people on board, motivating people, influencing where you have no real authority, keeping disparate teams informed and ensuring they inform back.
In light of this approach, you may have project leaders who need to get things done in a timely and professional manner and haven’t yet developed the skills to ensure everyone else does do what they are supposed to do and by when.

You may have people who are very good at Project Management until something goes wrong and they don’t seem to have the ability to manage well in a crisis or simply aren’t using their creative abilities to find innovative solutions to the unexpected.

You may have people who are new to Project Management and may have been trained on Prince2 or something similar, but now need to understand how to get the most from their teams.

How to keep them enthused (especially over long-term projects), and how to deal with the difficulties of missed deadlines, delivering bad news and goal-post changes mid-way through.

Our Project Management Training is clearly far more than about the nuts and bolts, though, of course the nuts and bolts are at the center of every project.

With us delegates learn to manage projects and people.

Tailored specifically to each group our Project Management Training Programs are designed to help delegates become more successful at running every kind of project.
