Building Resilience Training
How do you get from setback to bounce back?
At CATD , that’s our definition of resilience: the ability to bounce back from adversity!
Everyone has a reservoir of resilience within them but we also know that faced with difficulties that reservoir can drain away quite rapidly.
It’s having the facility to top up and call upon those resources quickly that makes individuals more resilient.
Why Resilience? Why now?
Someone recently asked us that by focusing on building resilience weren’t we simply giving permission to companies to demand more from their people by making them more resilient.
It’s a valid question and indeed, there may be companies out there who would exploit the idea of making people stronger so they could do more.
We take a different view.
We believe in building people’s ability to manage their feelings and behavior more effectively when things go wrong.
Building this resilient behavior develops their whole person, strengthens their emotional capacity, expands their confidence.
It gives them a greater ability to set good boundaries and take care of themselves better.
Building Resilience is truly looking after people’s well-being
There’s a lot of research that has been done and continues to be done about what elements go into resilience and we use a great deal of that information to inform our tailored Resilience programs.
Obviously, a tailored-made program will be shaped to include your specific aims and objectives.
Having said that, it would most likely include a look at what resilience actually is.
How much are we born with (the nature bit of the equation and yes, there are people who are come into the world with a greater resilience capacity than others).
What we are given (the nurture part of the equation, and that includes the stuff that isn’t so nurturing).
What we learn (the bits we accumulate over the years that make us who we are).
Resilience Structure
Many researchers, clinicians therapists and counsellors, mindfulness coaches, etc., see resilience in terms of pillars and whichever approach appeals, they’re all valid and they all work.
We have borrowed, adapted some of these pillars to look at our own Resilience Structure held up by:
• Emotional Control
• Meaning
• Proactivity
• Realistic Optimism
• Elasticity
• Solution Finding
• Support
• Self-Belief
• Sustainability
A tailored program will look in depth at those pillars and use processes, exercises and games to bring them to life and give each delegate a tool kit of relevant, immediately usable things to do.
Our tailored programs are full of energy, dynamism and fun and Building Resilience will be no different.
As a matter of fact, humour is an important aspect of building resilience.
Since the ability to see the absurdity in our own and other’s behaviour is a terrific building block in being more in control of how we react and respond in a crisis.
Building Resilience will encourage each delegate to build on strengths they already have and better manage not only their everyday stresses and pressures, but the unexpected stuff that can ambush the best of us.
